LANDSCAPE DESIGN

Small Space, Big Curb Appeal
A low-maintenance front yard designed for seasonal interest and curb appeal.
Located in the heart of Old Town Alexandria, this project transformed several small planting beds surrounding a historic townhome into a welcoming cottage-style garden with year-round interest.
The homeowner was unhappy with the appearance of the existing landscape but needed a solution that could thrive with minimal attention during frequent travel, including extended periods away during the heat of summer. The design focused on hardy, drought-tolerant plants that provide seasonal color, evergreen structure, and lasting curb appeal without constant maintenance.
Existing azaleas were preserved and incorporated into the new design, helping connect the front landscape to the established backyard garden. Repeating plant combinations create a cohesive look throughout the property, while varied arrangements give each planting area its own character and charm.
Today, the landscape provides a colorful and inviting entrance that complements the historic character of the home. What was once an overlooked collection of small planting beds has become a standout feature of the property, earning compliments from neighbors and passersby alike.
