Saturated Simplicity

This project transformed multiple disconnected planting beds into a cohesive landscape unified by a deliberate palette of white and purple blooms. Rather than relying on a broad range of colors, the design focuses on repetition, texture, and seasonal layering to create visual impact throughout the property. Evergreen shrubs provide year-round structure, while carefully selected perennials introduce changing blooms, foliage, and seasonal interest from early spring through late fall.

The landscape was designed to perform across a wide range of growing conditions. The front yard combines flowering perennials, ornamental grasses, and evergreen shrubs to create a welcoming entry sequence that remains attractive throughout the year. In the backyard, individual planting areas were tailored to their specific environmental conditions, from deep shade beneath mature trees to hot, sunny exposures near the patio and shed. Special consideration was given to areas affected by juglone-producing black walnut trees, requiring plant selections capable of thriving in otherwise restrictive growing conditions.

A consistent combination of evergreen structure, flowering perennials, and contrasting foliage was repeated throughout the property to create continuity between the various planting beds. Hostas, hellebores, hydrangeas, ornamental shrubs, and seasonal blooms work together to provide visual interest across all four seasons while maintaining a manageable level of maintenance.

The result is a landscape that feels unified, intentional, and established. By limiting the color palette and focusing on strong plant combinations, the design demonstrates how restraint can create greater visual impact while delivering reliable long-term performance and year-round beauty.
